A Perfect Storm in the Operating Room Case Study Write-Up February 2, 2018

A Perfect Storm in the Operating Room Write-Up By: Mariah Lopez  Muscle Contraction occurs when calcium causes the troponin to change its shape which consequently changes the function of the Troponin. When the Troponin changes its shape it moves the Tropomyosin which exposing the myosin binding site. Then the myosin binds the actin and that's when the muscle contracts. Malignant Hyperthermia also known as MH is when the body has a severe reaction to certain types of medications used in general anesthesia. Malignant Hyperthermia causes the body to dangerously rise in body temperature, causes muscle spasms and a fast heart rate, patchy skin and low blood pressure. MH is inherited through genetic defects. Ice packs, cooling blankets and fans may be used to help reduce body temperature. Malignant Hyperthermia is triggered by the drugs used in the general anesthesia, such as halothane, sevoflurane, and desflurane. The "metabolic storm" that develops during MH is refers

Muscle Fatigue and Lactic Acid Lab Write-Up February 2, 2018

Muscle Fatigue and Lactic Acid Write-Up  By Mariah Lopez The conclusion of the Lactic Acid Lab was that  lactic acid that the muscle built up causes the number of squeezes done to the racquetball to decrease due to muscle fatigue. This occurred because of the high energy demand that we need to complete the task of squeezing a racquetball for 30 seconds. Lactic acid was then formed and built up in the muscle because of irregular rising requirement of energy and the insufficient supply of oxygen (02). The evidence shows that the in the initial trial the most squeezes occurred and in our case of number was an average of 28 squeezees on the first trial. As time progress, the built up of lactic acid caused muscle fatigue and over time the number of squeezes gradually decreases. By the end of the ten trials our average was 19 squeezes. This was a  vast difference from the initial number. The concluding graph also showed a gradual decay in squeezes as an average.  When you work your muscl

3 Question Blog December 15

I’ve learned quite a bit about the muscles. I did not know that the muscles were named so descriptively due to their location. I learned a lot about the amount of strength the muscle have under pressure and how adrenaline the body has in dangerous situations.  I have completed my skeletal test and all the work with it. I also completed my muscular labeling and like two of my color plates for the muscular system.  I plan to study, study, study this weekend. I want to be prepared for this midterm. I know I know all my information and the second I see the test I lose it all. So this time I want to develop better study skills and test preparation skills. And hopefully I’ll work.

3 Question Blog December 1, 2017

I have completed all my foldables, labs, and pre-labs, notes, case studies and some color plates. I’ve learned quite a lot during the past two weeks, I’ve learned the difference between structural and functional bones and the flat, long, short, irregular bones in the body. I also learned the histology of a bone cell. I plan to be comfortably prepare for this test by studying and hopefully my test score will prove it.

3 Question Blog Nov. 17th, 2017

I have completed various things these past two weeks, I have done notes, foldables, coloring plates, labs and a ton of labeling.I have also completed another successful week of an organized notebook. I have learned a lot these past weeks, I know how to identify bones and how to distinguish between a male and female skeleton. I've learned about the the bone tissue, which I didn't know much about. I feel pretty confident on the naming of the bones, I actually find this topic fairly interesting. I plan to use my next week of no school for sole dedication to prepare for the test, I want to feel more confident. I plan on doing this by reviewing and quizzing myself on the subjects.

3 Question Blog November 2, 2017

1. I have completed the section of the integument system. I completed case studies and a test over all. I finally completed organizing my notebook. It was a complete disaster. I have also completed my glog over a skin disease. I had picked eczema just because I have a mild case of it on my arms, and did not really know much about it.  2. I have learned quite a lot in the past two weeks. I learned it is easy to forget things and even harder to make up for lost time. I learned to not forget my notebook for class, especially on a day of the test. I've learned more about the skin that I did not know. I also learned quite a bit about Eczema. It is crazy how much I did not know about the skin disease, although I have it. I learned that it can be inherited through genes and may be caused by an allergic reaction.  3. I'm not going to lie, these past few weeks have been difficult. I recently got a job and now I work for 4-10 most nights. I've found it kinda difficult to balance t

3 Question October 20,2017

I have completed my case studies and notes for the integument system. I have completed foldables and flow chart to help with my learning of the skin. Also lately, I have completely reorganized my notebook so that it will be easier to located information. I have learned a lot in the past couple of weeks. I have learned the importance of the skin and its form and function for each layer. I also learned how to identify solutions in case studies. I have found it very helpful and educational to learn more in depth about the skin and its layer. Before learning about the Integument System, I did not know much about the skin, just that it is our first line of defense. And now I know why wrinkles are formed and how to identify the three types of burns. In these next couple of weeks, I plan to get a higher score on my test. I will do this by studying more frequently and completing work on time to devote more study hours. I plan to become more organized this time and to ask more questions.
